This site is no longer being maintained and may be shut down soon.

The rules are simple.  They’re really more like suggestions.

Step 1: Write Something

It can be as long or as short as you want, but I plan to spend around 20-30 minutes on each day.

It can be any style you want: essay, poem, fiction, biography, haiku, daily chapters in a 31-chapter novel, whatever.

Daily prompts will be provided for your inspiration.  You can use the exact word or phrase or a variation.  Or you can just use it for inspiration without using the exact prompt word in your writing.  No alternate prompts will be provided this year, but you can use last year’s prompts for inspiration.  If you still aren’t feeling it, write about something else entirely instead.

Step 2: Post It

You can post online, on your bathroom mirror, or just keep it in a private journal.  It would be cool if you shared it with someone though.  Up to you.

If you post online, remember to use the hashtags #januwordy and #januwordy2021 if you want to make it easy for people to find. You can also tag @januwordy on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Step 3: Repeat

Go back to Step 1 and do it again tomorrow.

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. Januwordy is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.  (I totally borrowed this awesome disclaimer from the equally awesome Inktober site.  The hypocrisy of borrowing text to use on a site meant to encourage creative writing is not lost on me.)
